    In Zululand, South Africa, a rhino is poached every 17 hours. The spoils are Asia-bound, where belief in the medicinal properties of the horns is widespread. The poaching is getting out of control, but help is now at hand with Operation Flying Rhino; an ambitious translocation of rhinos to a safe new home in a secret location. As part of the operation, 114 white rhino and 10 black rhino are airlifted to one of the most remote corners of South Africa, where it is hoped their future will be secure. Heading the project are Jed and Bom – the rhino protectors. Having grown up with rhinos they are determined to ensure their future, and with the help of new DNA tracing technology, stem the flow of illegal horn trading.     They are among the most hated und feared animals on the planet only few people recognize their beauty. This documentary features some of Europe's most stunning species, like the European adder, the nose-horned viper, the dice snake, the ringed snake and the Aesculapian snake. After a winter safe in burrows, sometimes in bundles of hundreds, the spring's warmth brings them back to life. Adders at 2,000 metres in the Alps have extra survival skills: they are almost pitch-black to absorb every last ray from the sun, and their offspring are born alive it would be too cold for eggs. Storks and herons, martens and polecats predate their lower altitude cousins. Most snakes avoid humans. The Aesculapian snake likes to shimmy up trees to catch birds, but it's happiest where humans store grain or dump waste that attracts lots of mice. And Europe has its own constrictor!

    There is something nice about the luxury of having a warm safe house. We usually picture puppies or pups only in relation to our best buddies, the domestic dog. In this installment of Cute Ones, we are about to be proven wrong. There are many wild animals taking care of their pups. Take the famous Australian outback cousins of our domestic pets, the Dingoes, or the untamed wild Wolves in the North American forests. Did you know that even fox's offspring, apart from kits, are called "pups"? All these animals do not share the warmth of a fireplace with us humans and have to take incredible care of their young so that one day they can peacefully raise their own children. The parents nurture them, protect them and also show them how to live on their own.
